Seekers Media and its partners have won the Marketing Canada Award by the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC).

The #TakeItToTheLake multimedia campaign resonated with hundreds of thousands of people by creating custom promotional videos and stories, and an engaging and robust social media campaignand crafted by Seekers Media via its ZenSeekers channels and collaborative partners. It showcased the many attractions and activities of the Lakeland Region of northeastern Alberta.

The content campaign was created by Seekers Media, a leading Western Canadian content production and marketing company, for Lac La Biche County, Athabasca County Municipal District of Bonnyville and Town of Vermilion.

“Regional destination marketing, when done in a strategic and collaborative way, can lead to powerful outcomes,” said Jim Barr, founder of Seekers Media and producer for Lac La Biche region’s #TakeItToTheLake campaign. “Through this collaborative marketing initiative, community efforts have effectively driven awareness of Alberta’s northeast as a regional tourism destination. Our results have garnered tangible economic outcomes for the communities, and this was realized because of our simultaneous collaboration.”

Throughout the summer 2019 #TakeItToTheLake campaign, Seekers sent its videographers and writers to the region to experience the region’s top attractions, including backcountry adventures, Indigenous special events and Canada Day celebrations.

“Having worked with Seekers for a number of years, I have seen these collaborative campaigns make destination story-telling fun and fresh, showcasing for visitors some of the best places that Western Canada has to offer,” said Lisa Monforton, Seekers Media Editor.

Alberta’s tourism industry is a multibillion-dollar industry and the northeast part of the province has been identified as an area with vast potential for growth. Social media was the engine connecting specific groups of visitors with the catchy hashtag #TakeItToTheLake. The idea was to raise the awareness about the many offerings within Lakeland tourism, while inviting visitors to join the conversation and share their own experiences. In 2019, the campaign overall has reached an audience in the hundreds of thousands.
