Drive from Calgary: It’s about a 2.5-hour drive from Calgary via AB-2 S. Follow the signs for AB-3 W/Pincher Creek/Crowsnest Pass/Crowsnest Highway and merge onto AB-3 W.
Drive from Edmonton: It’s about a 5-hour drive south on the AB-2 S. Follow AB-2 S and AB-3 W to Charlotte St in Pincher Creek.
Drive from Lethbridge: It’s about a 1-hour drive to Pincher Creek. Follow AB-3 W to AB-6 S in Pincher Creek No. 9. Continue on AB-6 S. Drive to Charlotte St in Pincher Creek
Morning – Start your day by stepping into an authentic slice of Alberta’s western pioneer days at Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village.
There are more than 20 heritage buildings to see giving you an inside look at life on the prairies from the late 1800s to the 1940s. Check out the Antique Car barn to get a look at Model Ts and Model As, see the living quarters of the North West Mounted Police officers and a historic bakery and schoolhouse. Do a little shopping at the Country Store to buy a new pair of Canadian-made moccasins or hand-crafted quilted items.
Time your visit to the village for one of the many special events happening like the Southern Nights series, with a line up of improv theatre, live music and car shows.
Lunch – If you’re still at Kootenai Brown, head to the Garden Café for lunch on the sunny patio.
Afternoon – Discover some of the many walking trails in the town of Pincher Creek. There more than eight kms of paths meandering through town, where you can walk along the creek, check out the town’s murals and green spaces.
Late afternoon – You’ve likely noticed all those wind turbines around Pincher Creek. They’re there for a reason; the region is known for its steady winds and that’s means a good time for local windsurfers. Head to Windy Point at the Oldman Dam Provincial Recreation Area to watch the pros or rent a kayak or paddle board in town and get out on the water yourself.
Evening – End a perfect summer day at the locals’ favourite Stardust Sweets & Treats. You could go directly to that double scoop of ice cream, but don’t pass up on the hearty goodies like smoked meat sandwiches, curly fries or fried chicken.
Other local eating spots: Harvest Coffeehouse on main street, Kinbari sushi and Luigi’s for pizza.
