Surprise yourself with Edson golfing and outdoor adventures

#ABWays2Summer

Edson is a small town that packs a big punch in outdoor activities and events, from golfing to Willmore Park trails.

Edson, AB- When you arrive in Edson, you are met with a small prairie town and a surprising array of activities. As my partner Garrett and I set out for a morning round of golf at Edson Golf Club we were pleasantly surprised at the conditions and landscaping of this course.

Garrett and I reside near the Canadian Rockies in Cochrane, Alberta, and we are frequently off in the mountains playing a round. As we started our round in Edson we couldn't help but notice that Edson Golf Club bears many similarities to some of our favourite mountain courses. As we left the pro shop to head to hole one, we traversed over a long bridge suspended over a ravine with towering mature trees surrounding us and in that moment, I knew it was going to be an amazing weekend.

An Edson Outdoor Adventure Itinerary

Thinking of visiting Edson? Here is a two-day itinerary that will give you ample time outdoors for a fun filled couple of days.

Morning, Day One: Hit the Links at Edson Golf Club

Enjoy a round of golf at the Edson Golf Club on your first day in Edson. This semi-private 18-hole golf course is landscaped beautifully with rolling hills, mature trees in natural forests, creeks and it is great for golfers of all abilities.

The pro shop is brand new as of August 2021 and adds an element of modernization to the already established course. Garrett and I enjoyed an early round of golf while sipping our morning coffees. It made for a peaceful start to our day.

Start your peaceful nature escape on the greens in Edson.

“Edson Golf Club is such a fun course,” Garret admitted after we finished the front nine. “The greens are in perfect condition and I am having a great morning.”

Beautiful greens make the rolling easy at Edson Golf Course.

After a fantastic morning of golf, spend the afternoon exploring the other facilities in town such as the swimming pool and ice arenas at the Edson & District Leisure Centre, the bowling alley, the ball diamonds and the Galloway Station Museum.

Evening, Day One: Dinner and Drinks on the Patio

After a day spent exploring Edson, pop by one of the restaurants in town to enjoy a meal outside on the patio. We dined at Original Joes where staff and customers were welcoming in a way that only a small town is. Try some local brews from Apex Predator Brewing and soak in some sunshine as you enjoy a relaxing meal outside.

Day Two: Explore Edson’s Outdoor Parks, Check out a Local Event

Willmore Park, six kilometres south of town, is a great place to spend your day in Edson. The park has a remarkable trail system including a 12.75 km loop trail that meanders through old growth mixed forest along the beautiful McLeod River. The trail is perfect for short walks, longer hikes and mountain biking.

Explore Edson's outdoors on a surprise summer getaway.

Willmore Park offers trails of varying difficulties for hikers and mountain bikers of all abilities. The vegetation along these trails was beautiful and we even snacked on some wild strawberries along the way.

Willmore Park Campground is located along the McLeod River and is a great place to relax after a day of exploring the trail system and wading in the river. The campground offers spacious non-serviced auto access campsites and potable water and firepits are supplied as well.
