One-day itinerary – Kiixin indigenous tour experience

Getting there From Vancouver
8:30 am - Take the Horseshoe Bay Ferry to Nanaimo
9:50 am - Arrive Nanaimo
Drive: Head out on BC-19 N and BC-4 for a little more than an hour. (Be sure to grab a snack or lunch along the way. A couple of recommendations: J&L, a drive-in restaurant serving things like fish and chips, hot dogs and burgers. Bare Bones Fish and Chips with big platters of fish and chips.

Getting there from Victoria
Take the Trans-Canada Hwy/BC 1 N to Nanaimo, then follow the above directions to Port Alberni
11:30 a.m. - Arrive at the Huu-ay-aht First Nations office, 4644 Adelaide St., Port Alberni to meet your guide. You’ll hop in a van and head to Kiixin, about a two-hour drive on a logging road.

1:30 p.m. – Arrive at Kiixin First Nations Village
Watch this YouTube video to learn more before you arrive
1:30 – 3:30 pm – Spend the next couple of hours with your guide learning about the fascinating lives of the First Nations people who lived in this area. You’ll walk through an ancient forest along boardwalk and on the beach.
5:30 p.m. – Arrive back at the tour office to retrieve your car.
6 p.m. - Make a stop at Twin City Brewing for a brew and a bite. It’s located at 4503 Margaret St. Directions here.
Plan to spend the night at Barclay Best Western Hotel.

Tours are available from the long May weekend to the end of September
