MorningCrawling Valley Reservoir

For your first stop of the day, visit Crawling Valley Reservoir, a man-made lake located east of the town of Bassano. The lake is known for its camping, fishing, and beautiful beach area. Spend the morning kayaking, fishing, or lazing on the beach. This is also a popular spot for camping, so bring along your camping gear or RV if you plan on staying a night or two.

Mid-morning – Rolling Hills Campground

Later in the morning, check out Rolling Hills Reservoir Campground, a picture-perfect reservoir that’s great for stand up paddleboarding. The crescent shape of the beach protects the reservoir from wind, so the water is the perfect place to try to stand up on the board and dip that long paddle for the first time.

Afternoon – Kinbrook Island Provincial Park

Heading back towards Brooks, stop in at The Steaming Cup for a quick bite to eat before venturing to Kinbrook Island Provincial Park. The park is located on the shores of Lake Newell, the largest manmade lake in Alberta. The area is perfect for boating, kayaking, SUP, and fishing. The park also has 160 campsites for RV and tent camping.

Early Evening – Lake Newell Resort

End your day catching the sunset at Lake Newell Resort, a lakefront community that is popular among watersport enthusiasts and boaters. The area is a favourite for fishing as its abundant with fish like walleye, rainbow trout, and northern pike. The resort is also a short drive to provincial historic sites like Dinosaur Provincial Park (45 min.) and the Brooks Aqueduct (15 min.)
